Leadership in the Age of Agentic AI: Skills Evolution

Agentic AI agents are the future and they are here now!

Organisations are moving from static AI models to intelligent agents capable of autonomous decision-making and action— The Agentic AI market is predicted to see significant growth, rising from $5.1bn in 2024 to $47.1bn by 2030 Gartner.

Traditional leadership competencies may no longer suffice in managing AI-augmented teams within this new dynamic in human-AI collaboration.

Agentic AI – Leadership skills

Our working definition of agentic AI for this survey is: ‘ AI systems that can act autonomously to take actions and achieve goals’

As Agentic AI becomes more capable of handling operational tasks, leadership skills will need to evolve in several key ways:

Strategic oversight and AI governance Leaders will need to develop skills in effectively overseeing AI systems, understanding their capabilities and limitations, and creating governance frameworks that ensure AI aligns with organisational goals and values.

Human-centred leadership As AI handles more analytical and routine tasks, distinctly human qualities in leadership will become more valuable.

Managing human-AI teams Leaders will increasingly manage blended teams where humans and AI systems work together on complex tasks.

We would value your input to help shape understanding of the changing leadership skills requirements and the organisational impact of Agentic AI.
