Successfully Assessing Step-up Potential at Senior Levels

Friday 20th October 2017 - 12pm to 2pm
London

Events

The dynamics of today’s business environment means that constant and accelerated change is now the new normal. Leaders have to grapple with an increasingly faster pace where volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) represents the new world. Those leaders and organisations that are equipped to handle the ever increasing challenges of the VUCA environment, and successfully shape/capitalise on opportunities, are the ones that will thrive and succeed.

Attracting and finding future, ‘best fit’ leaders, those possessing the aligned skills and behaviours for the moment to drive results and deliver the strategy, is an increasingly critical priority and component of future success.

At this leadership event you will:

  • Obtain an update on the latest leadership thinking, research findings and perspectives in this critical area of assessing senior level talent.
  • Have an opportunity to share your personal experiences/insights which have worked well and some which have not worked so well in this area
  • Be able to summarise those follow-on actions that can be taken by your organisation/executive to assess and support those with ‘step-up’ potential.

The outputs of this session will deliver a high performance checklist of insights which all delegates are free to utilise going forward.

Business leaders worldwide have reported concerns about finding new talent to take their place. In their second report ‘Succession Matters’, Korn Ferry found that only half of respondents (51%) felt confident that their company knew which candidates they should be investing in as potential future leaders and only 52% believed they have identified those who are ready for specific roles.

The survey of leaders from organisations ranging size from 500 to more than 50,000 members of staff, revealed that candidates’ skills and competencies present a significant challenge, with nearly two thirds (63%) of respondents reporting that a lack of well-suited traits for a company’s culture was the primary reason that promotions fail.

Profiling leaders for VUCA readiness and potential, and aligning these capabilities with the leadership challenges of a business, taking account of the cultural and economic landscape, all go towards creating the conditions for future success.
This task is equally important when it comes to decisions about internal promotion or external appointments.
