Successfully Assessing Step-up Potential at Senior Levels

Business leaders worldwide have reported concerns about finding new talent to take their place. In their second report ‘Succession Matters’, Korn Ferry found that only half of respondents (51%) felt confident that their company knew which candidates they should be investing in as potential future leaders and only 52% believed they have identified those who are ready for specific roles.

The survey of leaders from organisations ranging size from 500 to more than 50,000 members of staff, revealed that candidates’ skills and competencies present a significant challenge, with nearly two thirds (63%) of respondents reporting that a lack of well-suited traits for a company’s culture was the primary reason that promotions fail.

Profiling leaders for VUCA readiness and potential, and aligning these capabilities with the leadership challenges of a business, taking account of the cultural and economic landscape, all go towards creating the conditions for future success.
This task is equally important when it comes to decisions about internal promotion or external appointments.
